Location: Hersden, near Canterbury, Kent
Position: Part-time/voluntary (unpaid) for an initial term of one year
Trustees meetings normally take place every
two months at the Hersden warehouse.
Necessary Furniture is a charity that supports the community in East Kent by collecting unwanted furniture
and household goods from donors and selling it on at an affordable price to those who are in need or
experiencing financial hardship. With an annual turnover approaching £300k,
a vehicle fleet of four vans, a workforce of eight full-time employees and a board of
trustees, Necessary Furniture works with local organisations and the general public
to meet its charitable objectives.
Our board of trustees help determine and drive strategy for Necessary Furniture, so need to be pro-active, positive and have good planning skills.
Applicants would ideally have one or more of the following attributes:
Specialist skills in one or more of HR/H&S/fundraising/IT/charity finance/staff training & development
An understanding of financials and familiarity with good practice in financial reporting for decision-making
Experience of participating effectively in meetings to achieve results
Ability to work with fellow trustees to achieve planned objectives
Confidence to innovate and develop fresh ideas and initiatives
Experience in the charity sector is not necessary but could be an advantage. Necessary Furniture will provide support to
ensure the successful applicant/s gain a good working knowledge of charity best practice to meet Charity Commission
